On the night of 4 May 2026, when results from Coimbatore North and Singanallur were already trending nationally, a steadier number was tallying in the agricultural belt south of the city. K. Vignesh, TVK's candidate for Kinathukadavu (AC 122), closed at 99,950 votes — a 37.31 percent share and a margin of 11,710 over DMK's Sabari Karthikeyan, who himself polled a respectable 32.94 percent.

It was the kind of win that did not need an exclamation mark. Vignesh is the Coimbatore South District Party Secretary — the organisational counterpart, on the rural side of the city, to V. Sampathkumar's Coimbatore City District Secretariat in the north. The two posts are TVK's twin spinal cords across the Coimbatore parliamentary belt, and the fact that both secretaries entered the Assembly on the same day is not a coincidence so much as a design.

Kinathukadavu itself explains the result better than any speech. The constituency stretches south from Coimbatore city toward Pollachi, taking in tank-irrigated paddy villages, coconut groves, the Tirupur-bound highway industries that have crept along the SH 86 corridor, and the new logistics estates near Othakalmandapam. It is a seat where agrarian distress and a younger industrial workforce meet at the same chai shop. AIADMK had held the seat in 2021; DMK had taken it in 2016. TVK is the first non-Dravidian-major party to win Kinathukadavu since the constituency was redrawn.

Three things made the margin possible.

First, Vignesh ran a long campaign. As District Secretary he had been touring the panchayats since late 2024, when TVK was still being dismissed in English-language commentary as a film fan-club. By the time the model code kicked in, he had a booth-level worker network in roughly 80 percent of the village panchayats — heavier coverage than either Dravidian rival.

Second, the local issues mix favoured a credible newcomer. Water sharing with the Aliyar-Parambikulam system, MGNREGS wage delays, and the slow rollout of the Coimbatore-Pollachi rail doubling were the three complaints that came up at almost every Vignesh meeting. None of them belonged cleanly to AIADMK or DMK; both had owned them at different times.

Third, the turnout. Kinathukadavu polled north of 85 percent — a figure that historically punishes incumbents in this district. With AIADMK's vote splintering, the consolidation moved cleanly toward TVK rather than DMK.

The quiet win matters because it answers a question. Coimbatore North could be read as a personality vote for Sampathkumar in an urban seat. Kinathukadavu cannot be read that way. It is a rural, multi-caste, agrarian constituency that chose TVK on issues. For a 28-month-old party, that is the more durable proof.
